Beijing: TEA Asia Pacific Division meets with park owners at CAAPA 2018

Beijing - On March 17th 2018 the Themed Entertainment Association Asia Pacific Division brought together representatives from five leading theme park companies for a VIP Summit, during the annual CAAPA Attractions Expo.

The gathering was the brainchild of Thomas Megna, TEA Asia Pacific Division President. Thomas has been living and working in China for the last five years.

In his role as head of the TEA Asia Pacific Division, Thomas helps to spread awareness of TEA within the industry in Asia, and to foster productive dialog and education to help promote and establish best practices in this fast-growing entertainment sector.

The attendees of the VIP Summit included representatives from Shendi (the majority shareholder of Shanghai Disney Resort), BSH (the majority shareholder of Beijing Universal Resort), Universal Studios, Parques Reunidos and Six Flags/Riverside Group.

For the first part of the gathering, these owner operators met with members of the TEA Asia Pacific Board of Directors. The group included Owen Zhao, Ken Wheatley, Jefferey Woo, Margaret Wong, Jonathan Casson, Haiyan Chen, Anne Huang, Jose Lugo, Ron James, James Clark and Christian Aaen. TEA past president Keith James also took part.

This initial session began with introductions, then proceeded with detailed discussion including lessons learned about local park attendance, local guest habits, new technology development for tracking guest movement and tendencies. Also discussed was local guests’ specialty and the relevant operation strategy adjustment based on guests’ data.

In the afternoon the event was open to all TEA members and others attending CAAPA, and the discussion resumed, with active participation and many questions for the speakers. A lot of interest was shown from non-TEA members about joining our association. The event concluded with a  mixer.
