Thea Awards Recipients

Thea Awards 2018

Closing in on a quarter century of Theas - note from TEA president David Willrich

Welcome to the 2018 Thea Awards! This is in fact the 24th annual Thea Awards - which means that next year will mark the 25th – a quarter century of celebrating excellence in the creation of compelling places and experiences.

We are in a global industry. The TEA continues to expand, and the success of our organization stimulates our industry around the world as it continues to evolve. Our association grows in membership, in worldwide coverage, international prestige and market sectors. This is clearly reflected in the geographic spread of our award recipients. All that shapes the big weekend of events that starts with the TEA Summit and culminates in the Thea Awards Gala.

The TEA is very much about serving and supporting its membership, and the TEA Summit and Thea Awards are core products reflecting the culture of our association and our industry.

The growth of TEA enables us to further strengthen the range and quality of events and products we offer, adding to the value of being a TEA member. One example is the expansion of the TEA SATE conference programme, which now takes place in Europe and Asia as well as in the US. I hope to see you at one of our SATE conferences this year, the first is SATE Europe 2018 in Germany, taking place May 2-3 at Europa-Park.

Our association has a robust presence on the regional as well as the international level, with a full calendar of mixers, educational events, behind-the-scenes tours and more, taking place throughout the year. There are four TEA Global Divisions, representing the Americas, EME and Asia Pacific. If you are not already a TEA member, we hope you will become one. If you are a member, we hope you are making the most of the rich opportunities provided.

Getting back to the here and now of the 2018 TEA Thea Awards, I’d like to express heartfelt congratulations – on my own behalf, and on behalf of TEA – to all of this year’s Thea Award recipients, and to all the amazing members of our unique industry who are represented by these awards.

Special accolades to the Buzz Price lifetime achievement honoree, Phil Hettema of The Hettema Group. In addition to all of their groundbreaking projects around the world, Phil and his team produced the Thea Awards Gala for the past three years. This year, it’s our turn to throw the party for Phil, a brilliant and innovative contributor to the worldwide attractions industry.

Additional thanks are due to TEA COO Jennie Nevin and event producer Tammie Richards, and everyone on the production team for all their hard work and attention to detail. And finally, to the extensive network of people and companies who support TEA and its endeavors. This includes sponsors of TEA, our organization’s dedicated volunteers and leaders, the TEA staff and all event participants.

For their particular, essential support of the 2018 TEA Thea Awards Gala, very special thanks to Chimelong Group, presenting sponsor; Ryan Miziker and Miziker Entertainment, producers; Christie, projection partner, and AECOM, Theme Index Partner.

You are TEA. Your valued contributions make everything possible.
