TEA Tuesday Digital Mixer: How To Do Business in Asia

Asia has about 60% of the global population, and China alone has more people than US and Europe combined. Despite 12 out of the top 25 parks being in Asia, the vast growth potential in the region still remains largely untapped. Asia is also further on the road to recovery. The long-term sustainable market growth, the economic recovery and, most of all, the very large number of people looking for fun after being cooped up amounts to themed entertainment gold.  

Join us for an informative discussion on conducting business in Asia. Countries to be discussed are: Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau (tentative), Japan, Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore.


Speaker bios:

Owen Zhao, TEA Asia Pacific Division Board President, CEO, Max-Matching Co., Ltd. (Moderator)

Owen Zhao has over 20 years of experience in the themed entertainment industry from management and operations to investment. Over his varied career he has successfully operated diverse cultural entertainment projects across America, Australia and China with well-known names such as Disney, Merlin, Chimelong, Shanghai Expo, Asia Music Festival, etc. Currently Owen is the President of Max-Matching, a company investing in outstanding themed entertainment in China and busy bringing several global IPs and high quality concepts to the Chinese consumers. Owen is the President of the TEA Asia Pacific Division board, the first Chinese President in the history of the association, and committed to connecting the Asia Pacific region with the rest of the global TEA family.

Tony Duan, Chief Advisor, China Cultural Tourism Group

Tony has been engaged in the themed entertainment industry over the past decade, with a very wide scope of experience from online travel agency to themed parks. Tony worked as the Vice-President of Fliggy, one of the largest Online Travel Agencies in China and Assistant President of the Themed Entertainment within Wanda Group. Tony was also the President and CEO of Cedar Culture & Tourism Group before joining China Cultural Tourism Group. Tony is a well-known speaker, and helps out by lecturing at China Youth University of Political Studies and Nankai University.

Miia Tähtinen, VP, Sanderson

Miia has been working with Asia, specifically China, since 1997. She has seen the immense change over the past few decades through extensive travel from mountains to megacities, and met with a very wide variety of people. Miia has been speaking about the cultural differences for various audiences from universities to business and from boardrooms to factory floors. Her book about the differences in culture between China and the West is at her agent. Currently she works mainly in content creation and storytelling.

Natalie Chan, Director at Branded Experience and Partnerships, Hasbro (APAC)

Natalie Chan has over 10 years cross disciplinary experience in entertainment and IP licensing industry. She is currently accountable for business and strategic development of Hasbro experience in APAC region. Natalie is dedicated to developing storytelling experiences that are both engaging and business-viable.

Chad Kunimoto, Global Themed Entertainment Specialist, Panasonic Corporation

Chad Kunimoto has over 15 years of global marketing and business development experience at Panasonic, especially with professional audio-visual technology for the themed entertainment industry. Some of her experiences include working together with some key TEA members to create new WOW experiences for guests around the world through Panasonic's cutting-edge technologies.

She is also well aware of business operation in each region and has a sense of multicultural understanding. She leads global projects with focused management and collaboration, bringing together talented experts and team members, successfully around the world.

Gregory Arndt, Grand Poohbah , ArtistryWare Inc.

Gregory is a two-time Emmy Award winning Engineer and Programmer with degrees in Game and Simulation Programming and Game Development. He has been involved in the design and programming of themed attractions throughout the world, producing exciting experiences for Universal Studios Japan and Singapore, Legoland Carlsbad and Germany, Sega Japan and many others. Software programmer, electrical engineer, gamer extraordinaire, Gregory leads the charge at ArtistryWare, a company working through the whole value chain of Concept Design, Engineering, Digital Media, Programming and Mixed Reality in the Philippines.

Adron Leow, Managing Director, ALLF Management Group SDN BHD

Adron Leow has over 25 years of experience in covering the field in operation, marketing, finance and business development in the in various leisure & hospitality industry particularly in theme park, travels & tourism, F&B and retail. Currently Adron is the Managing Director of ALLF Management Group which specializes in new IT initiatives and solutions for the entertainment industry. Prior to this he was the COO of Galasys Group of Companies, the CFO of Hitachi Sunway Information System Sdn Bhd and in charge of FLH at Sunway Berhad. Adron worked also as the Assistant General Manager of Sunway Lagoon Theme Park gaining valuable practical experience of the industry. During this time his team managed top results, including signing the partnership to hold MTV world stage event in Sunway and setting the largest water ride in the world (Vuvuzella). Adron Leow currently serves as a Member of TEA Asia Pacific Board. He was with IAAPA Asia Advisory’s Manufacturer and Supplier Subcommittee from 2016 -2019.

Mason Schmitz, Director, P+A Projects

Mason Schmitz brings over 20 years’ experience in architecture, engineering and construction to lead a team of designers focusing on themed entertainment.  He has had the honor of working on notable attractions at theme parks around the globe like Universal Studios, Disney, Lionsgate, and Motiongate.  He has been an active Board member for TEA APAC, serving to bring awareness and collaboration with industry professionals.  His enthusiasm for the attractions industry is evident with each project, and allows him to guide key decisions throughout the design process.  When not at work, he enjoys spending time with his twin toddlers, and exploring the great outdoors.

Shaunessy Quinn, Assistant Vice President, Galaxy Group

Shaunessy has over 13 years of experience in production for live theatre, film, and location based entertainment holding a variety of positions including: Theme Park Design Lead, Show Producer, Associate Producer, Director, Casting Director, Production/Project Manager, Stage Manager, Lighting Designer, Master Electrician, and Technical & Event Manager. Prior to coming to Macau he developed Motiongate Dubai’s DreamWorks Land as a Show Producer from blue sky to handover through three different firms.
