Saudi Entertainment and Amusement (SEA) Expo: a major influencer in the Kingdom’s transformation

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, May 10, 2022: Saudi Arabia has embarked on a radical transformation, not only in its economy but also culturally by highlighting travel, tourism, and entertainment as priority sectors under its Vision 2030 economic diversification initiative.

This vision not only contributes to but revolutionizes the whole entertainment industry. The setting up of the General Entertainment Authority in 2016 to organize, develop, and lead the entertainment sector triggered this transformation with exciting entertainment options, and tailored experiences to the needs of all people.

Over the past five years, the entertainment sector has grown exponentially. It has not only improved the quality of life and leisure but also contributed to economic development through creating investment opportunities and thousands of jobs in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Entertainment & Amusement (SEA) Expo is the only trade show in Saudi Arabia that is profiling the flourishing leisure and entertainment sectors, and is set to take place again on 16 – 18 May at the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Saudi Entertainment & Amusement (SEA) Expo has major influence in the sector and contributes to shaping Saudi Arabia’s nascent entertainment industry into a global powerhouse. The event will host eminent industry leaders who will share insights and experiences on how the region’s entertainment sector is evolving, the current situation, and where they foresee potential business opportunities.

Sarkis Kahwajian, SEA Expo Event Director, said: “Saudi Arabia is leading the way in encouraging collaboration and action by thinking big. This will lead to a strong and sustainable future for the entertainment and amusement industry.” He added: “Saudi Arabia is developing its tourism destinations which represent great opportunities, especially since the kingdom’s wealth of spectacular landscapes and cultural heritages is still unknown for the international traveler.”

Yael S Coifman, Senior Partner LDP & President - EME Board Themed Entertainment Association, said: “The goals proposed as part of the entertainment strategy for KSA are inspiring and visionary. We think there is real potential in this market and although some of the members are already involved in the planning, there are opportunities for many others to influence and help shape the future of the entertainment industry in the middle east, bringing global knowledge to the region. “

The change began in 2018, when the government ended the 30-year ban on cinemas. By the end of 2021, there were 45 movie theaters in Saudi Arabia that

had presented more than 1,000 films and held the inaugural edition of the Red Sea International Film Festival featuring Arab and international films. By 2030 there are going to be 350 cinemas and 2,500 movie screens in the country, as well as an industry worth around $1 billion. The Kingdom is also aiming to see household spending double from making up 3% of GDP in 2018-19 to 6% in 2030 on entertainment.

Additionally, there are plans to build a media city to create a multiservice media ecosystem to support and enable content and talent creation. The opening of the entertainment sector has encouraged an ambitious construction pipeline of movie theatres, theme parks, live mega events, and sports-related infrastructure.

Moreover, the tremendous success of Saudi Seasons — an annual series of festivals across cities offering pop concerts, car races, pop-up restaurants, auto shows, and other entertainment programs — indicates the demand in this sector. The GEA has pledged to invest up to $64 billion by 2028 to develop the Kingdom’s domestic entertainment sector.

On the tourism front, Saudi Arabia plans to welcome over 100 million visitors annually by 2030. To this end, it has implemented numerous initiatives including an e-visa system for citizens of 49 countries, the opening of its UNESCO World Heritage sites, the construction of resorts on its Red Sea coast, and the launch of a cruise line.

With so much happening on the ground as well as Kingdom’s ambition of being best at everything, it is no surprise the launch of Saudi Entertainment and Amusement (SEA) Expo four years ago has been met with a lot of support and enthusiasm from the local entertainment sector. The event has grown by 300% since its inception which is an absolute testament to event’s relevance and importance.

Taking place on 16 – 18 May at the Riyadh International Convention & Exhibition Centre, Saudi Entertainment and Amusement (SEA) Expo will host the largest gathering of entertainment and leisure industry in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to date, offering a unique opportunity to test, assess and compare thousands of innovations from hundreds of specialist suppliers all under one roof... Online registration is mandatory.
