Biography

Luc Peumans was born in Genk, Belgium on the 27th of March 1968. He graduated as an industrial engineer in electronics. During his high school years, he was a member of the dance theater company “Symbolica” from where his passion for lighting design has grown in the theatre and entertainment industry. In 1994, he joined rental company Martins Music as a light designer and operator for various national and international artists like Rob de Nijs, Benny Neyman, Get Ready and he toured throughout Europe with Twenty For Seven.

An autodidact in lighting, set and video design, he is known as an all-round production designer and has since become involved in an incredibly wide variety of artistic projects. Among them are large-scale concerts and events, ice and circus shows, musicals and lighting projects for theme parks and museums.

Since 1999, Luc has run his own design company “Painting with Light”, collaborating with renowned artists and production companies in Europe and the rest of the world.

Recent realisations are the international arena shows Ice Age Live , Madagascar Live,  Holiday On Ice ‘Platinum’, ‘Passion’ and "Believe", Peter PanThe Never Ending Story, the musicals “The Bodyguard”, “14-18, Musical Spectacular”DreamgirlsSonneveldWicky the musicalKadanza, DaensBen-X, Alice in Wonderland 3DOliver and Daddy Cool, as well as the theatre plays Vrijdag,  HunkerigWho is afraid of Virginia Woolf and Othello. 

They were also involved in the open air operas CarmenRigoletto and Nabucco and mega concerts by K3,  Clouseau en Natalia meets Anastacia. Luc designed the opening ceremony for Manama, Cultural Capital of the Arab World in Bahrain in 2012. Recent TV-productions are the Music Industry Awards Show 2013 and Eurosong 2014  for Belgian national television and the opening ceremony for the celebration of ‘200 years Dutch Kingdom’.

In 2010 Luc expanded his activities to the “Architainment” market where modern modern media and entertainment technology is applied to architectural projects and theme parks. He created the design for the prestigious new stadium “Ghelamco Arena’ in Ghent and for the mining site ‘C-Mine’ in Genk. In the theme park world, he lighted the Plopsaqua Indoor Water Park, the wooden rollercoaster Heidi The Ride in Plopsaland De Panne and the new Comics Station theme park in Antwerp.

He received a nomination for the ‘Knight of Illumination Awards’ with Peter Pan in 2014, the Mondo*dr awards 2017 for HANGAR58, the Mondo*dr awards 2018 for Comics Station Antwerp and won “The City People Light Awards” for the C-Mine project in 2012.
