7thSense Wins Leisure & Hospitality Project of the Year Award at 2018 AV Awards

7thSense Design has been named as winner of the Leisure and Hospitality Project of the Year at the 2018 AV Awards for ‘The Egg’ at XI Gallery in New York.

The 20th annual global AV Awards took place at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London, on Friday 28th September, with over 1,100 key industry representatives in attendance.

Independently judged by thirty respected end-user and consultant judges in the industry, with 500+ years of experience between them, the awards recognise best practice, reward excellence and innovations, and help raise industry standards.

Collecting the award on the evening, Ed Patchett, Operations Manager, commented, “We’re delighted to have been presented with such a prestigious reward in recognition for our work on what’s now the winner of the 2018 AV Awards Leisure and Hospitality Project of the Year – especially in such a tough category with great competition!

“A huge thank you and recognition also goes to the project team of DBox, Farkas Fulop and TechWest who each played a major part in bringing this unique installation to life.”

The Award-Winning project

In May 2018. the “XI Gallery” opened in the Meatpacking District – a hybrid art installation and showroom for architect Bjarke Ingels’ luxury residences and a hotel under construction at “The XI” (pronounced The Eleventh) building a few blocks away. Its feature commanding most attention, from both invited guests and the street, was a curiously-shaped, 33-ft wide model of Lower Manhattan, comprised of more than 10,000 miniature 3D-printed and hand cut buildings. Technology West Group installed and commissioned 7thSense Delta Media Servers to bring projection-mapping life to “The Egg”.

Speaking about the installation, Ken Showler, Experience Director at 7thSense Design explained, “It takes a team with a lot of respect for accuracy to get a clean mapping result on an object this detailed. A little ‘off’ in the 3D model goes a long way. DBox and Farkas Fulop have done an amazing job producing this model and content, positioning TechWest and my crew to produce an alignment we are proud of”
