DRAWING DAYS 3: With Corrine Antonelli

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our third episode of “Drawing Days: A Lunch and Learn Series!” Each episode is a different stand alone lesson in visual communication through sketching from one of our talented organization members.

The third episode occurred on November 30thth with the extremely talented Corinne Antonelli guiding us through the process of costume design for holiday season parade performers. We began the event's lesson by drawing croquis to warm up. Croquis are the faceless mannequin like figures that we would later use to dress our characters. How we posed the croquis played an important role to educate participants on the way in which clothing rests on the human form.

During the latter half of the lesson, we dressed our first croquis as a female character whose costume was inspired by a randomly selected "snowman" prompt.  Corinne explained how a prompt can be interpreted in various ways to find inspiration from. Whether it was the buttons or hat, light or heavy clothing, the prompt served only as a guide for the costume. She also stressed that as one designs a costume, it is important to remember how the performer will move in it. For our second costume, the randomly selected prompt was "present," to dress on a male figure form. Utilizing the components of wrapping a gift as inspiration, details of the design included: wrapping paper, ribbon, bows, and the all important gift tag.

TEA members tuned in from across North America, and even some members from China and Germany, for this jolly lesson in visual communication.

Our third episode rounds out Season 1 of  TEA Drawing Days and we are thrilled with the positive reception to this engaging interactive event series. Keep an eye out for the information for Season 2 of the series when it resumes in 2022!
