TEA Member Spotlight: Dale Sprague, TEA service award recipient

Dale Sprague has been named by the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) to receive the TEA Peter Chernack Distinguished Service Award, which honors exceptional service to the organization, above and beyond the norm. Giving back in this manner is the lifeblood of an association such as TEA that relies in great part on a dedicated community of volunteers.

TEA announces the new Distinguished Service Award recipient each year at the same time as the new slate of TEA Thea Awards recipients.

For some two decades, Dale Sprague has generously provided his own time and talents to TEA, as well as those of his professional staff at Canyon Creative, making himself and his company available as a resource to our association year after year.

He has interfaced with the TEA International Board, TEA Headquarters, TEA Divisions, Committees and the membership.

To his role within TEA, as an artist, designer and small business owner in his own right, Dale has brought an intimate understanding of and commitment to our unique, creative industry. His company, Canyon Creative is a longtime TEA Corporate Sponsor.

Dale’s many years as a volunteer leader within TEA include six years’ service on the TEA International Board of Directors. Whenever possible, he has shown up and contributed his time, voice and perspective to Board meetings, Committee meetings and the annual Strategic Planning Meeting.

He also shows up reliably for TEA’s tentpole conferences, the Thea Awards Gala and the TEA presence at the IAAPA Expo in Orlando.

Dale chaired the TEA Marketing & Communications Committee for many years. In this role, he helped channel the energy and abilities of the Committee’s more active members into producing some useful output. Two examples are the TEA Advantage articles (a series of written by committee members and published on the TEA Blog profiling how TEA membership had helped various TEA members in their career paths) and an internal TEA Style Guide.

Dale and his team at Canyon Creative, a creative services agency, produced several social media campaigns to help increase awareness among TEA members of benefits available to them, such as the TEA Job Board.

He and his team also contributed numerous design templates for TEA marketing and publications, including email campaigns, TEA event flyers and the Thea Awards Program.

For the latter, Dale also provided complete page production service on at least one occasion, working with our publications editor to turn out the book on a tight schedule.

Dale Sprague's contributions to TEA marketing and branding
included many hours' work setting up the TEA website
and collaborating with TEA HQ to populate it with content. He
and his team have continued to provide services in connection
with the TEA website.

Dale and his team have also used their expertise in Google Analytics to help monitor and report on the performance of the TEA website.

Dale Sprague's contributions to TEA branding and
corporate identity included designing the TEA logo.

TEA has benefited greatly from the corporate marketing expertise that Dale and his company have brought to help TEA assume a more consistent, professional face and brand identity. Based in Las Vegas, Canyon Creative has considerable experience in this area with clientele that includes major casino operators as well as hospitality, entertainment and retail.

Dale brought this expertise and understanding to the design of the current TEA logo and its various iterations for TEA Divisions, conferences, NextGen and [email protected] clubs. He has continued to be available to weigh in when new branding concerns or needs crop up.

Dale personally put many hours of work into getting the current TEA website rolled out and populated with content provided by TEA HQ. Following the website’s launch, he has helped troubleshoot snags and discuss functionality within the Marketing & Communications Committee, with the IBOD and with TEA HQ.

Throughout his many years of service to the TEA, Dale Sprague has been generous, tireless and dedicated, a deep and patient listener with a gracious and warm demeanor. His contributions have helped TEA to strengthen its brand consistently across regions and around the world, and to achieve the global status the organization enjoys today.

Dale Sprague truly embodies the spirit of service and the legacy of the late Peter Chernack, for whom the TEA Distinguished Service Award is named. Chernack was instrumental in the TEA Past Presidents Commitee initiative that originated the TEA Service Award. Other recipients of this award have been Wendy Heimann-Nunes, John Robinett, Patricia MacKay, Joe FoxAnnika Oetken, Karen McGee, Judith Rubin and Gene Jeffers.
