Recap of INSPIRE Day 2
Projects only happen because of the people behind them.” With those words, Ruben Grandia concluded Disney Research’s presentation about Thea Award winner for Technological Innovation: Stars Wars: Galaxy’s Edge BDX Droids. His statement also perfectly summarized the day’s theme: the themed entertainment industry is filled with creative, boundary-pushing teams who boldly inspire us all.
Returning as TEA INSPIRE’s exuberant irreverent and spontaneous hosts, Brian Morrow and Denise Hatcher lit up the filled ballroom, effortlessly guiding attendees on a journey that celebrated excellence and innovation.
Thea Award winners pulled back the curtain to reveal the stories behind the honored projects, locations, and experiences. Presentations were open, transparent and thoughtful, and attendees could explore more about their favorite sessions during smaller Creator Chats sessions.
The full day kicked off with a presentation from Thea Award winner for Immersive Technology and Production, Sphere. The massive architectural marvel is both an immersive experience and creative canvas for art, music, and live experiences.
Moving from an incredible indoor experience to one that draws inspiration from nature, the team behind Adventure Play at Windsor Great Park shared how they created an immersive outdoor destination that seamlessly unites play with the natural world. Sustainability played a key role in every step of the process and the Adventure Park team discussed how they created a unique space that invigorates all five senses without technology.
Mycotoo’s Fri Forjindam welcomed this year’s Catalyst Award Winner, Dayton Schroeter, to the stage for a thoughtful conversation about his visionary approach to creating spaces and experiences that are culturally significant and inclusive. His design aesthetic and focused eye is changing the landscape of museum design. Attendees learned from Dayton as he shared why it’s important to give a voice to those history has previously overlooked. His own personal drive and experience are inspiring critical change that will leave a lasting imprint on tomorrow’s museums and cultural centers.
The TEA INSPIRE program is a connected experience, blending information sharing with insight and creativity. Beyond the formal presentations, key learnings are furthered by connection and conversation. Attendees enthusiastically shared with each other during program breaks and lunch but always returned to the ballroom eager to learn from the next set of outstanding Thea Award recipients.
Thursday concluded during the exclusive “Inspire the Night” event at Universal Studios Hollywood. TEA INSPIRE attendees experienced a night of magic under the stars, complete with a lunar eclipse!
Universal’s team treated guests to an engaging panel of leaders from the park and Universal Creative. Together they discussed upcoming projects and attractions including the park’s first high-speed outdoor roller coaster, “Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift” and the upcoming Las Vegas-based attraction, “Universal Horror Unleashed.”
TEA INSPIRE continued on Friday 14 March with more engaging presentations from Thea Award winners.
