PIET DE KONINCK studied graphic design at Sint-Lucas University of Applied Sciences (BE). Being the Creative Director of the Plopsa Group, one of the leading Theme Parks Group in Europe, and former Creative Director of Studio 100, Belgium’s no. 11 Family Entertainment Group Piet has over 335 years of expertise in the Themed Entertainment Industry. Creator of true immersive Destinations and Location-Based Entertainment.
He’s also an expert in scenography for award-winning Spectacle Musicals, Theatre, Shows and TV Series creator of true immersive Destinations and Location-Based Entertainment.
HOW IT ALL STARTED:
Shortly after his studies at Sint-Lucas, Piet designed the decor for the mass spectacles Eureka - Event of Excellence (1991) in the port of Rotterdam (NL) and Les Nuits Fantastiques du Loto (1993) in France. Next, he worked for Efteling amusement park (PandaDroom) (NL) and for Meli Park in De Panne (BE). Both a career and the company PDK CREATIONS based in Aalst (BE), were born.
Piet was quickly contacted to join the newly established Studio 100 as Art Director. In this role, he designed the set for many Samson & Gert Christmas shows and the TV sets of Plop, Piet Piraat, Anubis and other Studio 100 films and musicals.
SUCCESS STORIES & AWARDS:
Piet De Koninck has already been awarded several times, including for his sets of Daens (Flemish Musical Prize, 2009, Best Creative Presentation), Pinocchio (Stichting Musical Awards by John Kraaijkamp, 2008, Best Decor), Alice in Wonderland (Flemish Musical Prize, 2011), and The Three Little Pigs (Eventim Musical Awards, 2024).
Piet designed all the theming & attractions of Plopsaland De Panne, Plopsa Indoor
Hasselt and Plopsa Indoor Coevorden. He contributed to the development of Plopsa
Coo Ardennes and designed new attractions for Plopsaland Deutschland (Holiday Park). He also created the Plopsaqua water parks and Majaland Kownaty in Poland.
Together with Wouter Verhulst, Piet designed Het Kunstuur Museum for the Bourlon brothers, located in Mechelen,Hasselt & Roeselare (BE). Piet worked with Franco Dragone in Macau, designed several themed water parks for the Center Parcs group, and collaborated i.a. with KCC on Angry Birds World in Doha (QA) and Wanda Nanjing Indoor Theme Park (CN).
