Business Description for Membership Directory: upLIGHT is a lighting and media design studio based in Brooklyn, New York. The firm works where light, image, and architecture meet — shaping how people move through a space and what they carry away from it.
Founded and led by principal designer Greg Bloxham, upLIGHT designs across an unusually wide range: live entertainment and touring productions, museum and exhibit environments, broadcast and television, architectural façades, and permanent public installations. That breadth is deliberate. The instincts a designer builds staging a live show — timing, restraint, knowing when light should disappear — carry directly into a gallery or a building envelope, and the technical rigor demanded by broadcast and permanent installation work raises the floor on everything else.
The studio is intentionally small. Clients work directly with the designer making the decisions, from concept through focus and commissioning, rather than handing a project down a chain. upLIGHT is fluent in the systems side of the work as well — control, media servers, IP video transport, and integration with AV and scenic trades — which means designs arrive buildable and documented, not just rendered.
The result is work that serves the story first: durable, precisely executed, and specific to the place it lives in.
