by Melissa Oviedo, TEA International Board President
Earlier this year, I, along with a few members of the International Executive Committee, had the opportunity to travel to the Asia Pacific Division, specifically China and Hong Kong, to connect with our members who live, work, and play there.
Before delving into the highlights of the trip, it's essential to express gratitude to the Global Partners who made this journey to China and Hong Kong possible - Chimelong, Universal Creative, and Walt Disney Imagineering. Each of them provided access and guided tours to their parks with behind-the-scenes insights that enriched the entire experience. Travel and lodging to China were also graciously provided by Chimelong. Any additional travel costs were sponsored by each delegates’ individual companies, so a huge thank you to Nassal, Medici XD, CPLG Wildbrain, MV Rides, Birket Engineering, and TCR Holdings for their continued support of the TEA.
The goals for this trip were determined by TEA’s core values – Connection, Creativity, Inclusivity, Thought Leadership, Innovation, and Celebrating Excellence. The primary focus was to reaffirm TEA’s commitment to the Asia Pacific Division and its partners. In a post-pandemic world, the delegation aimed to showcase the industry's resilience and innovation during challenging times.
We wanted to see first-hand how the themed entertainment industry in China and Hong Kong engages with a highly localized yet global audience. The delegation aimed to explore how they produce new experiences for guests, witness groundbreaking developments, and understand the strategies adopted by industry players to make themselves distinctive and innovative.
Over the next several weeks, I plan to offer a few highlights from this incredible trip. You’ll also get to read a recap from International Board Secretary, Evi Sari. I’m looking forward to sharing some of the wonderful things we experienced during our trip and the amazing projects and individuals in the Asia Pacific Division.
Thank you again to our incredible Global Partners. This trip would not have been possible without them.
